How to Receive a High Credit Limit

Just because you have excellent credit doesn’t necessarily mean you automatically qualify for a sky-high limit, however. Your credit limit is relative to other factors such as income.

Before the economic downfall in 2008, it wasn’t uncommon for consumers to see credit limits as high as $50,000 on a single credit card. But when the recession hit and so many consumers defaulted on their loans, the banks were the ones in deep waters. Understandably, they’ve tightened their reins and credit limits haven’t been quite so generous since then. Same goes for mortgages — it’s harder to get a mortgage now than it was prior to 2008.

You may have to settle for a lower credit limit than you had in mind originally, but you can request an increase after six months. As long as you continue your good spending and payment habits, you shouldn’t have any issues increasing your limit over time.
