With all of the credit card choices offered by Chase, it’s no wonder they are one of the largest issuers of business and personal credit cards in the country. The family of popular Chase cards includes Chase Freedom, Chase Slate, and the prestigious Chase Sapphire card in both Preferred and Reserve versions. Of course, there are also many co-branded and specialty reward cards issued by Chase.
If you’ve applied for a Chase credit card online, approval is usually instantaneous. However, there are some cases in which applicants may not hear back right away. Keep reading to learn about a couple of quick ways to check your Chase credit card application status.
1. Login Online to the Account You Created When Applying
Although Chase, surprisingly, does not have a specific online credit card application status feature, there are still ways that you can check your status. If you applied online, then part of the application process involved setting up an account and password. Begin by logging into your account.
Once logged in, click on the Customer Center tab to the right of the screen. This will bring up an Account Services window, and, toward the right side, you will see a category for Open a New Account. In this category is a recently added selection called Check My Application(s) Status. No, they certainly don’t make it easy. However, clicking on this link should let you see the approval status of your credit card application.
Another way to check your status online is to send a secure email message asking about the standing of your application. To do this, go to the Contact Us page of the Chase website. Next, click on the Credit Cards link, and select the Send a Secure Email option. You will then be asked to enter your User ID and Password. Once logged in, you can send a message inquiry and expect a response to your inquiry within minutes.
2. Call the Automated Application Status Phone Number
Chase does have an automated system that allows you to check the status of your application over the phone. There are different numbers to call depending on whether you’ve applied for a personal or a business credit card from Chase. That said, you can also call the Chase main phone number, and the menu system will direct you to the right place.
Chase personal cards: 1-800-432-3117 Chase business cards: 1-888-269-8690
The menu sequence for the personal and business card numbers is 1, 3, 1, after which you’ll be asked to enter your Social Security number. Once authenticated, an automated message will tell you the status of your credit card application.
Try the Reconsideration Line for Denied Applications
If you find that your application for a Chase credit card has been denied, you have the option of asking for a reconsideration of your application — essentially an analysis and review of why they turned you down. A special phone line has been set up for this reconsideration process and is staffed by credit analysts who can review your application on the spot. The number to call to speak to a live credit analyst about your personal credit card is 1-888-270-2127.
In preparation for speaking with a credit analyst to get your application reviewed, consider some of the possible reasons why Chase may have denied it. Among these might be Chase’s “5/24” rule for personal credit cards. This well-known restriction that prohibits people with more than five credit cards opened in the past 24 months from being approved for most Chase cards. You can still try the reconsideration process, and maybe ask the analyst if there’s a different card you can get.
If you’ve been denied for a business credit card, the reason may be more specific, such as revenue earned, tax filing status or something similar. If this is the case, be sure to have all applicable documentation for your business available when you call. Also, be prepared to fax any requested documents to the analyst.
If your application for a Chase credit card is still denied, there are other alternatives, depending on your credit score and history.
