If you’re having trouble making up your mind about where to take your family on vacation this summer, recent news from American Express may help make that decision easier for you. The company’s credit cards are now accepted in more locations in the Caribbean islands.

And the recent announcement of the expanded acceptance comes just in time for you if you’re already headed to the Caribbean this summer and you’d been hoping to use your Amex card to make purchases on the region’s diverse islands.

American Express has developed relationships with banks that operate in the Caribbean to open doors for cardholders that were previously shut. Financial institution partners including CIBC Caribbean Bank Limited and Royal Bank of Canada have helped American Express increase the count of merchants in the Caribbean that accept Amex cards.

American Express has worked with bank partners to boost acceptance of Amex cards in the Caribbean.

I can recall seeing television ads in years past that called attention to a perceived lack of acceptance of American Express cards in different spots around the globe. But you may not see another ad of that nature anytime soon, thanks to the company’s efforts to increase acceptance of its cards in remote territories.

“We’ve poured a lot of our energy into the Caribbean, investing in growth and expanding payment choices for those who travel, live, or work there,” Mohammed Badi, President of Global Network Services for American Express, said in a press release announcing the company’s growing footprint.

If you have an American Express card and you’re traveling to Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos, then you’ll probably be pumped up to learn that those areas offer the strongest acceptance rates in the Caribbean for Amex cards, according to the company’s release.

Helping Travelers Plan Their Trips

American Express offers you more than just top-notch financial solutions. The company can also help you plan cool getaways through its travel guides. The guides have a lot of information about hotels you can check out and sights to see while you’re on the go. And American Express also supplies tips to help you to maximize your Amex rewards points.

The ways American Express helps you make the most of your travels is an example of how credit card issuers can create brand loyalty through the services they offer.

The Caribbean has eye-catching scenery and gives you a chance to take a break from life’s hassles while enjoying the vibe of sun-splashed coasts. In 2024, the Caribbean saw more people arrive on its islands than in prior years.

Are you an American Express cardholder who has the Caribbean on your list of spots you’d like to visit? Then now may be the time for you to plan a vacation to the islands. In addition to increased card acceptance, American Express cardholders can now access more experiences in the Caribbean.

The company provides numerous lounges in airports throughout the region. And American Express has partnered with El Dorado Park in the Dominican Republic to offer eligible cardholders discounts on admission tickets to the park as well as food and beverage purchases at park eateries.

American Express and its customers aren’t the only groups that stand to benefit from increased acceptance of the company’s cards in the Caribbean. Merchants operating on the islands can now offer shoppers one more way to complete a transaction.

“Building this ecosystem across the Caribbean islands means Amex cards are now accepted in many more places across the region, and merchants can now attract Amex customers from near and far,” Badi said.
