Fetch, the company that links shoppers with opportunities to earn rewards through its app, has partnered with American Express to launch its first credit card in the U.S.

The card, known as the Fetch American Express Card, signals to the credit card industry that traditional rewards programs face competition from emerging loyalty platforms.

Fetch users can now earn rewards when they shop with the company’s app or browser extension. The company partners with hundreds of popular retailers on its rewards offerings.

With the new credit card, people will be able to unlock a new level of the Fetch experience that amplifies the rewards they can earn.

Cardholders who use the card to make purchases at grocery stores and retailers can earn an additional 10 Fetch points on each dollar they spend. They’ll get an extra five Fetch points on each dollar they spend with the card on all other purchases.

Cardholders can redeem the points they earn for gift cards to popular retailers.

Shoppers can exchange the points they earn for gift cards to companies including Amazon and Starbucks, or they can use them to make donations to charities.

Rachel Ehrlich, Fetch’s General Manager of Payments, said in the press release announcing the new card that Fetch is “doubling down” to connect people with more rewards.

“We’ve rewarded our users for where they shop and what they buy — now, it’s time to reward them for how they pay,” Ehrlich said. “Our goal is to make the Fetch Card a no-brainer choice that delivers rewards on daily spending.”

Standing Out in a Crowd

Rewards play a huge role in many consumer decisions about which credit card they should apply for. A recent report reveals that “43% of consumers identify rewards as a top motive for seeking a new credit card.”

But simply offering a rewards program may not be enough for an issuer to stand out in a crowded market. After all, many credit card issuers offer rewards programs. And the benefits they bring can start to look similar when you’re comparing multiple programs from different issuers.

A card’s rewards program can motivate a person to apply for the card.

The goal Ehrlich mentioned in her press release comments is lofty, but Fetch’s outside-the-box rewards system may motivate people to apply for the company’s new card.

Fetch offers a feature called Spin & Win that allows cardholders to spin a virtual wheel to increase their rewards points. Customers can use this feature to win up to 1,200 bonus points on every spin. Each qualifying purchase a cardholder makes with the Fetch American Express Card entitles them to one Spin & Win entry.

This feature is likely to appeal to fans of the long-standing television game show “The Price is Right.” But it also provides an example of how credit card companies can offer memorable, interactive ways for cardholders to earn rewards.

The Fetch American Express Card launches this fall. Fetch is encouraging interested customers to join a waitlist to be among the first to apply for the new card.
