American Airlines is planning its largest Admirals Club yet — a 37,000-square-foot lounge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The new lounge is part of a broader premium travel push at American’s largest hub, with expanded dining, a private check-in experience, and a new grab-and-go lounge also planned for DFW.

The move could benefit travelers with certain Citi credit cards that grant them access to Admirals Club spaces.

Citi / AAdvantage Executive cardholders can enter Admirals Club lounges by presenting their valid physical card and a boarding pass for same-day eligible travel. They may bring immediate family members or up to two guests who also meet the travel requirements.

Citi / AAdvantage Globe cardholders or those with the Citi Strata Elite product get four passes each year they can use to enter Admirals Club locations. Others can buy a one-day pass for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles, although they must be traveling on an eligible same-day flight and access may be limited based on lounge capacity.

American Airlines Plans Three DFW Upgrades

The airline’s premium travel expansion spans three terminals.

Upgrade Location Key Detail
Admirals Club Terminal C 37,000 square feet
Flagship check-in Terminal D Private check-in; opens later in 2026
Provisions by Admirals Club Future Terminal F Grab-and-go food and drinks

The premium upgrades will begin before passengers reach security. Beginning later in 2026, the company will offer a new check-in experience at DFW that will provide eligible customers a private check-in environment and easy access to airport security screenings.

Checking in and getting through airport security can be a time-consuming process for travelers, so the new service American is offering to make that more convenient is likely to be popular with those taking off from DFW.

Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines, said in a press release that the company’s investment at DFW covers every stage of the premium travel experience.

“Our Flagship check-in experience offers a more tailored and streamlined start to the journey, bringing together dedicated service, premium amenities, and greater convenience for our most loyal and premium customers,” Garboden added.

New Lounge Designs May Help Reduce Overcrowding

The new Admirals Club will cover 37,000 square feet at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The fact that American has chosen DFW to be the location for its largest Admirals Club to date aligns with the company’s overall presence at the airport.

American is based in Fort Worth, and the mailing address for the company’s headquarters is a PO Box at the airport. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport serves as American’s largest operation with daily departures exceeding 930 during peak periods, according to the press release.

In addition to offering travelers a place to recharge their batteries before the next leg of their journey, the new Admirals Club at DFW will have more all-day food selections available and will include chef-inspired options. Guests looking for a refreshing beverage at the lounge will have their choice of alcoholic and caffeinated drinks.

Overcrowding can undermine the appeal of airport lounges, turning what could be an oasis for travelers into one more chaotic scene they have to navigate while flying. Mike Taylor, an analyst at JD Power, told USA Today that the problem is one of demand exceeding supply.

For some travelers, lounge access has also become a status symbol amplified by social media.

The global airport lounge market is forecast to reach $20 billion by 2034.

“People aren’t [going to lounges] to decompress anymore,” tech CEO and frequent traveler Maury Blackman told USA Today. “They’re there to be seen having access, taking Instagram photos of champagne walls.”

The 37,000-square-foot lounge could provide more room for travelers, although American has not disclosed its seating capacity or projected effect on crowding.

Earlier this month, CardRates covered American’s opening of an airport lounge with a grab-and-go concept at New York’s JFK airport. Now, American Airlines is bringing that idea to Dallas.

The company plans to open a Provisions by Admirals Club lounge in DFW’s future Terminal F that will likely please travelers who want a taste of the lounge experience but don’t have a lot of time. The new spot will offer travelers beverages, fresh food options, and travel essentials.

American Airlines has been active in the lounge arena this year. And those who pass through airports often are likely to see more lounges pop up in airports across the country and beyond in the coming years.

The global market for airport lounges is projected to grow from about $5 billion last year to $20 billion by 2034, according to market research cited by USA Today.
