The CardRates team was on the ground at CardCon 2025, where Bobby Schroeter, Chief Commercial Officer at Frontier Airlines, took the stage on May 7 to announce a new benefit sure to grab the attention of travel enthusiasts.

Frontier’s latest travel program now allows the company’s Elite Platinum and Diamond Status members to bring a companion with them on any Frontier flight for free. The unveiling of this perk comes just in time to bring affordability to eligible members seeking to secure summer flights for themselves and a plus one of their choosing.

The new benefit aligns with Frontier’s focus on building loyalty among its customers. Schroeter said that Frontier caters to value seekers, offering ways for travelers to access premium seat upgrades, boarding privileges, and free checked bags.

Frontier’s new benefit extends value to consumers seeking savings on flight costs.

The Frontier Airlines World Mastercard® helps customers reach the rewards tiers that access the company’s new companion travel benefit. Any purchase a cardholder makes with the card moves them one step closer to unlocking elite benefits.

“When you use the card to book Frontier flights, you’re going to very quickly move up the ladder to elite status, and you’re going to start liking the benefits you get,” Schroeter said.

Schroeter said Frontier is excited about the companion benefit because it provides customers with a reward that other airlines may not offer.

“We feel like we’ve created a program here that really has surpassed other programs out there in a lot of ways,” Schroeter said. “In fact, when we went into this program, we said, ‘what are others doing and how do we do that better?’”

Soaring Above the Competition

The announcement of Frontier’s companion travel initiative comes at a time when other airlines have been removing perks or making them more difficult to access, Schroeter said. Frontier’s business model allows them to continue offering benefits that reward loyal customers.

“We have a lower cost structure than others,” Schroeter explained. “So we have the opportunity to do things at a lower price, and, therefore, we can provide more benefit there.”

The companion travel offering stands to help Frontier attract customers in search of uncommon perks. Schroeter said only four other airlines offer companion travel benefits, and some of those programs are more restrictive than that offered by Frontier.

Frontier’s companion program is uncommon in the travel rewards space.

Customers earn miles rewards when they use the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard to make purchases. They can earn five times as many miles when they use the card to complete transactions on Flyfrontier.com.

The card complements Frontier’s strategy of bringing value to customers that increases their loyalty toward the company. Schroeter expounded on that concept in a press release announcing the travel companion benefit.

“We are laser-focused on delivering real value and rewards to customers left behind by other airline loyalty programs, and our new companion travel shows our commitment to offering convenience, flexibility, and our signature affordability,” he said.
