Key Takeaways
Credit card issuers keeping tabs on enticing offers from competitors will want to familiarize themselves with the latest offering from Chase Bank.
For a limited time, cardholders who open a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Credit Card can earn 100,000 bonus points after they spend a minimum of $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening the card.
The promotion, which Chase is calling its “best offer this year,” provides a sizable increase from the card’s standard offering. The Chase Sapphire Preferred card’s typical offer to new cardholders allows them to earn 60,000 bonus points after they spend $4,000 in the initial three months after opening the card.
The last time the company offered this many bonus points to new Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders was in 2021, according to reports. Current cardholders of any Sapphire card and previous Sapphire cardholders who’ve obtained a new cardmember bonus within the previous 48 months are not eligible for the offer.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card is known as a leader in the travel rewards space. The card has won numerous awards in recent years, including honors for being a top entry-level travel card and the best card for international travel.
In addition to the initial 100,000 point offer, eligible customers can accrue additional points when they purchase travel through the Chase travel portal and use their Chase Sapphire Preferred card at select online grocers and streaming services.
Travel Rewards Promote Cardholder Loyalty
The peak travel season is just around the corner, which is why the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card promotion comes at an opportune time for consumers looking to accrue rewards points for travel purchases. The offer may persuade consumers to spend the time and effort required to apply and open a new credit card account.
Recent research from Collinson reveals that today’s consumers are in search of brands that offer them meaningful experiences that correspond to their lifestyles, needs, and values.
“Rewards and benefits programs have emerged as a pivotal way to meet these expectations, helping businesses boost engagement, cultivate loyalty, and stand out in increasingly crowded markets,” the authors of the research wrote.

Collinson’s research targeted high-spend credit card users. Among the study findings: 92% of survey participants indicated they’d use a brand more often if it offered benefits or rewards. And 89% said they’d like “travel-related rewards and benefits to be a core feature” of a loyalty program.
Chase will likely evaluate the long-term success of the 100,000 bonus points promotion not only by how many new customers it attracts, but by whether those customers remain with the company long after the promotional period ends.
According to the Collinson research, there’s a strong chance the majority of new cardholders will remain loyal to Chase as long as they can continue to access travel rewards. Sixty percent of participants in the company’s research said they would feel “loyal to the card” that offers them travel-related benefits.
Other issuers seeking to attract and retain new customers stand to benefit by evaluating their card programs and ensuring they provide suitable rewards options for travel enthusiasts.
