With over four decades of experience providing department store quality at discount prices, T.J. Maxx has become one of the largest clothing retailers in the US, operating more than 1,000 locations nationwide. Its parent company, TJX Companies, also houses other popular retail brands, including Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Sierra Trading Post.

Deserving of the department-store moniker, T.J. Maxx's selection of products cover the gamut of goods, selling everything from apparel and shoes to furniture and kitchen utensils. The TJX Rewards Credit Card is designed for shoppers who want to take their savings to the max, and the card allows users to earn rewards on every purchase at T.J. Maxx, as well as at the rest of the TJX family of brands — just watch out for the high interest rate.

Better Cards to Use at T.J. Maxx

If the T.J. Maxx winter line makes you warm inside, you may just love a TJX Rewards Credit Card — particularly if you don't intend to carry a balance. Ever. If you're maxed out on the T.J. Maxx experience in a single trip, however, you may want to steer clear of the store card and cozy up to a more versatile cash back or travel rewards card, instead. Or, if you want to shop without being charged two-arms-and-a-leg's worth of interest, then a killer introductory 0% APR deal will be "the perfect fit."

Cash Back

While your TJX Rewards Credit Card may earn rewards equivalent to 5% back when you shop in TJX-branded locations, wouldn't it be nice to earn 5% on other things, too? Well, there's a cash back card for that, with 5% cash back in rotating categories that also include things like gas and groceries, depending on the quarter. Other top picks on our cash back list also provide 1% or more on every purchase, everywhere to really maximize your rewards.

Offering aisle upon aisle of buttoned blouses, cute knick-knacks, and styled shower curtains, it can be easy to get carried away in a T.J. Maxx or HomeGoods store, but the 27.99% APR charged by the little piece of store-branded plastic in your pocket makes that a bad idea. Choose a credit card with an introductory 0% APR offer to avoid paying hefty finance fees for all of your purchases — including that darling dog dish Dino just had to have. Our favorites will give you interest-free financing for 12 months or more anywhere your card is accepted.

Travel Rewards

Wouldn't it be nice if, while shopping for the latest threads, you could be earning rewards toward a trip somewhere you can actually show them off? That's the glory of a great travel rewards card. You can earn points or miles on every purchase — even T.J. Maxx and friends — that can then be redeemed to cover airline tickets, hotel stays, and other travel-related expenses. For the most flexibility, choose a travel rewards program without brand restrictions or blackout dates.

For the few shoppers who really max out their T.J. Maxx rewards, the TJX Rewards Credit Card can offer consistent savings of 5% of your branded purchases. If you'd rather earn rewards everywhere, on everything, or simply enjoy interest-free financing, then you'll have to look at other options.

T.J. Maxx Card Overall Rating: 2.5/5.0

In the wide world of store cards, you can expect to see fairly high interest rates, but the TJX Rewards Credit Card takes it a little too far, charging a massive 27.99% APR for new purchases. With an APR that high, you'll definitely want to avoid carrying a balance on your card — and paying it late, as you'll be charged $35 for late payments. Don't look for any deals here, either; the TJX Rewards Credit Card doesn't come with any special financing offers.

What it does come with is a decent earning rate for rewards. Cardholders earn five rewards points per every $1 in purchases made on their card at any T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, or Sierra Trading Post location in the US or Puerto Rico. Cardholders can also earn 5X points per $1 spent when shopping online at tjmaxx.com or sierratradingpost.com. A $10 Rewards certificate will be issued for every 1,000 points you earn.

T.J. Maxx Credit Card

  • APR: 27.99% as of Feb 2024
  • Annual Fee: $0
  • Rewards: Earn 5X per $1 on T.J. Maxx purchases
★★★ 2.5/5.0

All in all, the card's rewards-earning rate equates to a 5% savings on branded purchases, so the TJX Rewards card can be a good way to save when you spend enough. Keep in mind that while the rewards points you earn with your TJX Rewards Credit Card will never expire, your Rewards certificates do — be sure to redeem your rewards at any TJX-branded location in the US or Puerto Rico within two years after the issue date.

Perhaps the perk that entices the most shoppers to signup for the TJX Rewards Credit Card is the initial bonus. New cardholders can save 10% off their first online or in-store purchase after opening a new credit account. If you know you'll be making a large T.J. Maxx (or sister-brand) purchase, that 10% can save you a bundle. At the same time, the discount is only good on a single purchase, so if you intend to buy a variety of little items, consider consolidating them into one order.

Approval Requirements & Application

The TJX Rewards Credit Card typically approves applicants with fair credit or better, which means credit scores around 620 or higher. You can apply for a new card at any TJX-branded location, including your local T.J. Maxx. You can also head online to apply using the link below.

What Others Say About the T.J. Maxx Credit Card

After scouring the internet, the gangs all here — and they all agree that the TJX Rewards Credit Card has a horrible interest rate. Check out these other reviews to see what else the gang is gabbing about when it comes to shopping with the TJX Rewards Credit Card.

MyBankTracker.com
A review from MyBankTracker.com says:

The TJX Credit Cards are decent credit cards for those who frequently shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Sierra Trading Post stores. You won’t be able to earn the same amount of rewards at these stores the entire year with any other credit card. If you typically shop at these stores on a regular basis, you can earn a significant amount of rewards that you can, in turn, use on your future purchases. Plus, if your first purchase is large enough to benefit from the 10% discount and you’ve had any credit problems in the past, your best bet might be the TJ Maxx store card. However, if you only shop at these stores once in a while, and you can qualify for one of the other rewards credit cards on the market, neither of the TJ Maxx credit cards is especially ideal. — MyBankTracker.com

★★★ 3/5.0
CreditCardForum.com
A review from CreditCardForum.com says:

For shopping at TJX-branded stores, the rewards are quite respectable. However, the interest rate is insanely high. The takeaway should be to pay your balance in full each month with this card. Also, remember you are earning rewards specifically to use at TJX. So think about how frequently you shop there. If you think your rewards will languish, consider getting a more general-purpose rewards card that earns rewards everywhere — and allows you to redeem for straight-up cash back. — CreditCardForum.com

★★★ 2.5/5.0
WalletHub.com
A review from WalletHub.com says:

I have had my TJX Reward card for some time and it is a double-edged sword of sorts. I do like the fact that for every dollar that I spend I get 5 points, however the interest rates are rather high. The card does come in handy when I don't feel like transferring money but want to do a little shopping. I also heavily use the card during the holidays. One good thing is that the more you spend, the more you get, the company will send you coupons in the mail to get ten or twenty percent off of your entire purchase, and you can get certain percentages off of purchases. This comes in really handy on clearance items because you are already saving, but you really get to save with the coupons. — WalletHub.com

★★ 2/5.0

Is the T.J. Maxx Card Right for You?

Standing in line with your arms full of discounted designer duds, it can be tempting to give into the cashier's casual offer of a TJX Rewards Credit Card — but pause before you apply. Unless you're a regular at your local T.J. Maxx, or other TJX-branded locations, then this card may not be worth the space in your wallet (let alone the hard credit inquiry). Instead, look for a credit card that will offer perks and rewards you'll use more frequently, such as cash back rewards, rather than rewards points good only on high-heeled pumps and houndstooth pillows.
