Navy Federal’s New 4X Travel Card Cuts Everyday Rewards

Navy Federal is giving military families a new way to earn more rewards on travel, but some members may have to sacrifice everyday points to get them.

The Flagship Premier Visa Signature Credit Card is now available to Navy Federal members. In a press release, Navy Federal said it designed the card for military servicemembers and veterans, as well as their families.

Navy Federal positioned the card as a simpler alternative to travel rewards programs with rotating categories. That gives cardholders one less thing to keep track of while earning their rewards.

The Flagship Premier card earns 1X points on purchases, but the rewards rate jumps to 4X on travel purchases and 3X on dining.

A broad range of travel spending can qualify for the higher rate. Eligible purchases include airfare, car rentals, cruises, hotel bookings, timeshares, and vacation rentals.

The card also rewards transportation purchases such as buses, parking, tolls, and trains. Navy Federal notes, however, that rewards depend on how each merchant codes the transaction.

New cardholders who spend $4,000 in the first 90 days after opening their account can earn 50,000 bonus points. That special offer is set to expire on January 3, 2027.

Those benefits may take some of the sting out of traveling at a time when plane tickets have become much more expensive. A recent report found that airfare costs in the U.S. were more than 26% higher in June 2026 than they were one year earlier.

The Flagship Premier card has a $95 annual fee and offers a $100 annual statement credit after cardholders spend at least $100 on eligible airline purchases.

Cardholders can also receive statement credits of up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

“With Flagship Premier, we’re offering premium travel rewards at a low annual fee, strong earn rates, meaningful travel benefits, and a hassle-free rewards redemption experience members can truly value,” Rahul Chaudhari, Vice President of Consumer Lending Products at Navy Federal, said in the release.

The card also has some visual appeal: It’s the first metal credit card Navy Federal has offered.

Current holders of Navy Federal’s Flagship Rewards card don’t have to fill out an application to upgrade to the Flagship Premier card.

They can follow a handful of simple steps on Navy Federal’s website to make the switch. The credit union says no credit check is required.

To entice members to upgrade, Navy Federal is offering an extra six points per dollar on eligible travel purchases made within 90 days of switching cards. Members can earn up to 15,000 bonus points through the offer.

Members should weigh the trade-offs before making the switch. Flagship Premier earns 1X on other purchases, compared with 2X on the existing Flagship Rewards card, and Navy Federal says members cannot switch back after completing the upgrade.
