5 Benefits of an Excellent Credit Rating
CardRates.com Guide: Excellent Credit

Have you ever been enticed by those new car offers of 0% down, zero interest and zero due at signing? Ever wonder who actually gets those deals? It’s the people that have excellent credit ratings. And by that, I mean EXCELLENT credit – like 800 and up credit (remember, credit scores range from 300 [horrible] to 850 [perfect]).

Here are more obvious and immediate benefits of having an excellent credit rating:

1. The Best Interest Rates on Your Credit Cards

The credit card offers that most of us drool over will often have a tiny little asterisk by that APR number. If you look closely, the asterisk will say something like, “Rates are based upon credit-worthiness; restrictions apply.” That’s credit card speak for “Only those with excellent credit need apply.”

2. Increased Credit Limits and Borrowing Capacity

In addition to lower interest rates, the credit card limits and lines of credit available to those with excellent credit are much higher than for the rest of us. When your available credit is higher, it looks better on your credit report, making it more likely your score will remain high.

3. Better Mortgage and Refinancing Rates

When it comes time to buy a home or to refinance the home you’re in, the banks will fall over themselves to make you the best deal possible. That’s because they get graded on the average credit rating of their borrowers. With excellent credit ratings scarce, you can bet you’re in high demand.

4. Better Auto Loans

Yep, this is where you get to take advantage of those zero-zero-zero deals. Only the most attractive credit scores get invited to this party. In fact, have a copy of your 800+ credit score with you when you walk into the dealership and ask what kind of deals they have. Prepare to be impressed.

5. Lower Insurance Rates

What does my credit score have to do with how good a driver I am, you ask? The truth is absolutely nothing. But if you have a good driving record and an excellent credit score, you are more likely to receive the preferred rates on car insurance. This is because the insurance company has one more metric by which to judge you a financially responsible person.

There are other benefits to having an excellent credit rating. Any personal or signature loans you need also will have the lowest rates assigned. Vacation rentals, reservations, and timeshares also will come with the best possible benefits and rates. Just about every aspect of your life that involves some person or entity gauging your level of responsibility will benefit from you having excellent credit.
