How To: Add Credit Card to iPhone (iCloud & Apple Pay)

Oh iPhones, so simple yet sometimes so complicated. If you need to save a credit or debit card to make purchases with your iPhone as easy as possible, here’s how it’s done for your iCloud Keychain and Apple Pay:

iCloud Keychain

This is for purchases made on Safari. Whenever you buy something online you won’t need to run for your wallet – your iPhone will have your card information stored and ready to go.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Safari

  • Tap Passwords & AutoFill, the first option under General

  • Tap Saved Credit Cards and enter your passcode when prompted

  • Tap Add Credit Card

  • Enter the information and tap Done

Apple Pay

To use Apple Pay on your iPhone 6 or later, you’ll need to add a credit card to Passbook. These are for purchases made at retailers who accept Apple Pay. Apple Pay allows you to forego the wallet and scan your phone instead.

Note: Make sure you are using iOS 8.1 or later in the U.S. and iOS 8.3 or later in the U.K.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Passbook & Apple Pay

  • Tap Add Credit or Debit Card and enter your Apple iD when prompted

  • Enter the security code of the credit card on file with iTunes to be used on Apple Pay, or tap Add a Different Credit or Debit Card and enter the information manually
